September Members Meeting. This Wednesday!

It’s that time of the month again folks, time for our regular members meeting at The Wheaty. They’re held every 3rd Wednesday from 7pm out in the back room.

This meeting has no set discussion or presentation topic, but we will be running a dollar raffle for 2kg of spec malt – Special Roast, Melonoidin or Dark Crystal (to be decided). 100% of all money received goes directly to the club, as the malt was generously donated by a friend of the club.

This may also be your last chance to get in on the 8 issue BYO subscription for $40! This is a fantastic offer to get behind, the magazine has a good range of articles catering for brewers of every skill and experience level. It is cheaper to get the magazines via this order than to sign up for your own subscription by a good amount, with the extra benefit for your club that a percentage of the cost directly comes back to SABC!

Spots are filling fast – the offer will end at THIS club members meeting so that the details can be sent to BYO a week after the club meeting – you have until that date to get in!

We’ll see you at The Wheaty!

SABSOSA 2014. Are you entering?

Folks, entries for SA’s largest amateur brewing competition and our only pathway to the Nationals, close this Saturday, 6th of September!

You have until Saturday to get your entries in, they need to be delivered to either Brewmaker Home Brewing – 560 North East Road, Holden Hill; Beerbelly, 6/421 Prospect Road, Blair Athol; or Gulf Brewery 1/13-15 Mt Barker Road, Hahndorf.

Entries are just $5 each which is great value!

Full details are available over on the SABSOSA site.

Good luck!

Apologies if you saw this in the newsletter after the 6th, and missed the date. Due to the method used to generate the newsletters it is not easy to exclude posts from the newsletter.

August Members Meeting

Our monthly members meeting is just a few days away now, 20th of August, 7pm @ The Wheatsheaf Hotel in Thebarton.

This months topic will be a group discussion on preparing Yeast Starters; which as any experienced brewer will tell you is a good way to ensure you have the correct quantity of healthy yeast which helps your beer be the best it can be.

We’re also having a raffle at this meeting, so bring your spare gold coins! The prize is a magnetic stir-plate which was generously donated by Carter Brewing. Tickets are $2 each, with 100% of the funds going directly to SABC. Stir plates are a great way to help grow your yeast, so grab a couple of tickets!

BYO Magazine, Discounted subscriptions for club members!

We are now able to offer a discounted subscription to the American homebrewing magazine BYO.

The normal subscription price for Australia, including international shipping, is $45 USD (~$48 AUD + bank fees).

We are able to offer to our financial club members an 8 issue subscription for $40 AUD, including international shipping. This represents an impressive saving over the normal price, with the additional benefit that SABC receives a percentage of this price which goes directly back to support the club!

There is a limited time on this offer, as we need to compile the members who wish to take advantage of this and their payments within 1 month, and there is a minimum of 10 members for this offer (Restriction imposed by BYO, not SABC). Cut off date is September 17th (Club Meeting), any interest after this date will miss out!

To take advantage of this offer, please email the club directly at sabrewclub@gmail.com stating your desire to be included, with your postal address, and transfer $40 AUD to the club bank account, as below:

Account – South Australian Brewing Club Incorporated
Account No. 1073 8025
BSB 065 004

Orders need to be received by September 17th (Club Meeting), as outlined above, to be included in the offer; and we need 10 members minimum (BYO restriction, not SABC). This order will only be completed once per year.

Gawler Show – Entries Close on Friday!

Folks if you’re planning on entering the Gawler Show, your time is running out! Entries need to be completed and submitted to the Gawler Show Office by THIS FRIDAY 8th of August!

For full details, please click on this link to access the entry form.

You still have a couple of weeks to get the bottles ready, but payment and paperwork DOES need to be completed by this Friday. Drop offs to BeerBelly or to the Gawler Show Office.

Also if you’re free on August 23rd and fancy your hand at some judging or stewarding; give Carty a shoutout by emailing him at mattjamescarty@gmail.com. Don’t forget to include your contact number so he can let you know the specifics.

Good luck!

Apologies if you read this in the newsletter after 8/8! Due to the method the newsletter is generated it’s not easily possible to exclude this notification.

Have you been getting our Newsletters?

Unfortunately some members, gmail users especially, have not been seeing these email newsletters arrive in their mailbox.

We use a mail distribution service called MailChimp, and apparently some of the email content (likely the HTML tags used, or perhaps other users of the same service) causes these emails to be picked up as spam. They’re not, we’re not selling anything, and all our members requested them.

To ensure reliable and safe delivery – please ensure emails from the club email address sabrewclub@gmail.com are marked as safe, or you have a filter which directs emails from this address into a known folder.

Membership subs are due!

I’m sure current members will agree we’ve had a fantastic first 18 months as a club. With some excellent events in our past such as tours of Lobethal Bierhaus and Brew Boys breweries, an excellent American style BBQ thanks to valued club member Darren B; and of course our informative monthly club members meetings which take place on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at the craft beer mecca The Wheaty.

That’s only the beginning! We have another fantastic 12 months ahead and we’re looking to share it with all our members. We have some exciting events planned including tours of a local maltster, tours of local breweries, two BJCP registered club competitions (members receive discounted entry) and lots more!

For the club year 14/15, all members receive a pair of beautiful etched SABC glasses which are very sturdy and their tulip shape suits a large range of beer styles.

Also included in your membership is two subsidised club events; these are yet to be announced at this point but rest assured they will be exciting social events you’re not going to want to miss.

Members fees are $60 for new members (inclusive of $10 joining fee), or $50 for members who are renewing their 13/14 membership.
