Just a quick reminder that membership renewals are now well and truly due, so if you are intending to remain a member (who wouldn’t, let’s be honest), please send your form to firstname.lastname@example.org or bring it along to the meeting on Wednesday, along with payment of course.
We currently have only one tasting lined up for the September meeting. If you have a beer you would like to present for some feedback, or are really chuffed with and just want to show it off, email the club on email@example.com and bring your beer along.
SABSOSA has been run and won for another year. A big congratulations to all members who placed this year, and good luck for the nationals if you are entering your beer. A particular mention to our glorious ex-president Brad Bown for getting the best mash beer gong. See you all at the presentations next Sunday 20th September, 12.30pm at the Wheaty. If you haven’t already, check the results here.
As part of the move to new web hosting, we have also moved our email into our own domain. This means we have access to more email addresses, which will hopefully streamline the way members communicate with the club. From today on, please use the email addresses below for all correspondence. The Gmail account will be forwarded until the end of the year, at which point it will be closed.

We are excited to announce that the next SABC function has been locked in. Get your lederhosen on for an Oktoberfest lunch at the German Club! The details are:
Saturday October 24, starting at 12:30pm
German Club of South Australia
223 Flinders Street, Adelaide
Lunch comprising main course and dessert, plus one complimentary beer will be provided by the club for financial members. Guests and partners are most welcome, with the cost per head being $40 with a pint, or $32 for those not wishing to drink beer. Of course, any guests signing up as new members on the day (it’s only $60) will avoid having to pay for this function, as well as benefitting from all the other perks our members enjoy.
We will be presenting the brewer of the year award at this event, and will hopefully also have someone to give a brief talk on the history of Oktoberfest (If you consider yourself an expert, get in touch with us. You may score an extra beer…).
Please RSVP, along with any payments for guests, by October 10th by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Payments can be made in cash on the day or directly to the club account:

Today the SABC website is moving to its new home. If all goes to plan, hopefully you won’t even notice, however there may be a short down time where the site appears to have vanished. Fear not, some of the finest minds in IT are working on the move…
At the August member’s meeting last week we sat down to judge the Winter Competition (previously incorrectly referred to as the Spring Competition – not sure where that slipped in!). As a bit of a social experiment judging was open to all in attendance, and we were extremely pleased to see that just about everyone there had a go at judging. There were many first-timers, and from casual discussion later in the evening it seems that overall it was a positive experience, with a number of members saying that their interest in judging had been ignited.
For those not present on the day, here are the results:
1st James Forrest
2nd Matt Kennedy
3rd Clint Fisher
Foreign Extra Stout:
1st Gary Waters
2nd Matt Kennedy
3rd Brendan Hennessy
1st Simon Rofe – Dry Stout
2nd Matt Kennedy – Scottish Ale
3rd Clint Fisher – American IPA
Beer Of Show: Matt Kennedy – Oktoberfest
Congratulations to all place-getters, and in particular to Matt Kennedy who not only placed in all categories, but took out the Beer Of Show gong. We are putting together some fabulous prize packs, to be presented along with the Brewer of the Year announcement at the next club event, which will be announced very soon.
The Robe beer festival is on this weekend, with a number of events at the Institute on Saturday, including a presentation by Stephen Nelsen, and beer and cider tastings. Judging for the competition will also take place on Saturday, with the winners announced at a dinner in the evening.
On Sunday The Robe Town Brewery are holding an open day. There will be brewery tours, food and live music all in a beautiful (but no doubt chilly) sea side setting.
The Melaleuca Motel in Robe has contacted the SABC and is offering discounted accommodation to our members for anyone who would like to stay overnight. Talk to Megan or Matthew on 08 87682599, or check their website here www.robemelaleucamotel.com.au for other contact options. Be sure to mention that you are an SABC member.
Just a reminder that the judging for the next competition is next Wednesday at the regular club meeting. If you would like your entries to have time to settle, please contact the club via email email@example.com, or myself on the number that is listed on the entry form and rules.
Entries received by Monday will be taken to the Wheaty and stored in their cold room on Monday evening. Any entries received after that will be stored and transported appropriately to the Wheaty on Wednesday just prior to the meeting and judging.
Good luck to all entrants, and we look forward to seeing you all there!
The Spring competition, which was announced in March, will be judged at the next SABC general meeting on Wednesday August 19 at the Wheaty.
The format of the judging will be slightly different from usual, being an open judging session where any member interested in judging will be able to sit on a panel with an experienced BJCP certified judge and learn more about the process. South Australia needs more judges, and the hope is to get some more people interested in undertaking the BJCP certification course.
All beers will be judged according to style, and any major scoring discrepancies will be reviewed. All other SABC competition rules will apply as usual. See the link below for entry forms and rules.
Any member with beers to enter in the competition and who is unable to attend the August meeting can contact the club via email or the organiser on the phone number listed in the rules. Members attending the meeting, please be at the Wheaty by 6.30pm with your beers, as we are aiming to start the judging as close to 7.00pm as possible.
As always, please send any questions through to firstname.lastname@example.org

The new committee met for the first time last week, and, while there is still a lot of work to do, much of the coming year’s events were mapped out. Look out for some announcements soon regarding the Winter Competition and the next major social event.
At the recent AGM, elections for committee positions were held, and SABC is pleased to announce the new committee:
President: Julien Gibson
Vice President: Darren Billett
Sectretary: Luke Moran
Treasurer: Simon Rofe
General Members: Clint Fisher, Mark Smith, Gary Waters and Ed Shorne Holden
The new committee is meeting for the first time early next week, and our aim is to map out the next twelve months’ activity as soon as possible. As always, if you have any suggestions of any sort, please email the club.
Also at the AGM, the revised constitution was accepted by vote, and will be available as a permanent link on the website soon.
A huge thank you must go out to the retiring committee members, in particular Brad, James and Ian, who all contributed greatly to the inception and growth of the club over the last two and a bit years. Hopefully we will continue to see you all at the monthly club meetings.
