American Homebrewers Association Membership Offer

The AHA sent Steve Parr down to little old Adelaide to check out the ANHC (he is the Vice President), and as part of that they have extended a discount offer to Australian home brewers wishing to join the AHA.

Use activation code AUS15 in the activation code field at to receive a discounted membership.
In addition to saving 15%, a digital AHA membership includes the benefits of a traditional AHA membership with a digital copy of Zymurgy delivered via email or the eZymurgy app, instead of a mailed printed copy.

Pirate Life. We’re Back!

Ok, we’re back on track for our Pirate Life event, finally.  The roadworks have finished on that part of South Road, allowing free access for emergency services for those who have had too much pizza and beer!

The date is Sunday November 27th, starting at 12.30pm.

We will kick off with a brewery tour (and a pint), with lunch starting from 1.30pm.  There will be wood oven pizzas (vegetarian available), bruschetta and garlic bread served until 3.30pm.  We will have a raffle, and there will be a prize for the best pirate themed accessory or clothing.  We will also be announcing the Brewer of the Year.

Cost for non-members is $20.00 per person.

For catering numbers, please let us know if you are coming along, either by indicating so on the facebook event or the old fashioned way by emailing

Helles Bell’s!! Summer Comp details are in.

Munich Helles will be the focus of the upcoming Summer Comp early next year, to be judged on February 11th.

This technical and tricky beauty makes the perfect Summer beer!  But can you brew it to be worthy of the tap lineup at the Wheaty?

The brief is as per BJCP style guidelines, but taken with a grain of salt.  Overall balance and impression are the key here rather than slavishly adhering to ‘correct’ ingredients/methods. Have a bit of fun with it, but it should still be identifiably Helles eg. not so hoppy it’s effectively a Pils.

Style reference:

As well as the main prize of the winning beer being released by Wheaty Brewing Corps in a limited release batch, we have also upped the ante with our ‘Reinheitsgebot’ bumper prize pack containing, wait for it…, hops, malted grain and yeast, courtesy of our sponsorship partners BeerCo and Gladfield Malt. (You can organise your own water)

To be eligible for the main prize, you will need to brew a Munich Helles.  We are also running an “other” category, and the styles for this are any from BJCP 2015 guidelines in categories 4, 5, 6 and 7 (keeping the German theme, more or less)

Go forth and brew!

ANHC – It went off!

Well, ANHC has been and gone, and what a packed few days that was!  A few of us did the whole enchilada, and I think we all agree that it was well worth it.  Tiring though.  All that beer…

The cherry on the cake was Club Night, and what a night.  After a mad scramble to get the Boat Bar assembled, plumbed, lines cleaned and beer flowing, we took out the gong for best represented club!  Thanks to all that put in time and effort to bring the Boat from the dreams of a middle aged car salesman to the reality of an eight-tap plus outboard hand pump beer behemoth.  We ended up with something like 13 kegs on the night, and I think everyone who contributed got a beer on tap.  Here are a few photos from the night, for those that don’t do Facebook.
