SUMMARY:August Club Meeting - growing hops and brewing with them
DESCRIPTION:This month\, growing hops in the Adelaide Hills and brewing with them with Stuart Binnion from Silver Hop Springs and Fresh Hops Co-op of Australia. \nHe will tell us about reviving hop farming in South Australia on his small four-acre property in Longwood. With a background in horticulture\, he’ll explain how he saw the potential to grow hops commercially using the property’s eight natural springs\, particularly in a climate where local and international hop shortages are becoming more common. \nStuart will cover how his hop crops have performed\, the challenges of setting up trellising and dealing with temperature swings\, and how he had to rely on an old German video just to figure out the wiring setup. \nHe will also share his knowledge on how you can grow hops at home and we’ll cover how to brew with fresh hops. We might be able to get some cuttings for anyone interested in growing hops themselves. \nCome along and get out of the house\, warm your arse by the fire and enjoy some excellent beers and a catch-up with fellow homebrewers.
